Though you could lose yourself for the whole holiday without ever leaving this Koh Samui villa, you wouldn’t want to miss the fun of sampling some of the local sights, sounds and tastes.

Samui boasts some of the best tropical dining in Thailand and is renowned for its fine-dining restaurants.

• For relaxed opulence, try The Four Seasons (La Tania) and the Six Senses Hideaway.
• Funky Thai fusion from top guest chefs is on offer at the Library.
• Established favourites such as Prego and La Taverna never fail to provide wonderful meals in relaxed circumstances.
• The strip of bistros in Bophut Fisherman’s Villas.
• Hazy summer lunches by the beach in Cheong Mon.
• Day time chill-outs at Beach Republic and Nikki Beach
• Sassy rock front drinks at The Cliff or the Rockpool Bar.

And always there, always delivering understated but excellent food, are the beachfront restaurants of Cheong Mon and Chaweng which all quietly appear on the beach after sunset, like sand crabs, with their wonderful lighting, braziers and the sound of the sea in the background.

For after-supper fun, Chaweng offers a selection of outdoor nightclubs, such as the famous Green Mango club and the renowned "Lady Boy" cabaret shows.

Another Thai staple, Muay Thai (Thai boxing) events are staged twice-weekly around Chaweng during the high seasons.
